Flushing Meadows Speed Skating Club, Inc.
Welcome to New York City's Only Speed Skating Club!
Updated October 8, 2008. GC
As of October, 2008 the word is that the new Flushing rink will not be open until some time in November. Progress is being made by the new Conssessionair to finish the facility, but as normal things go when dealing with the city, there are delays beyond his control. As more information becomes available, it will be posted here.
Because of the delayed opening of the new rink in Flushing Meadows Park, the club has secured ice time at the Yonkers ice rink ( http://www.arenamaps.com/arenas/802.htm ) as follows:
Thursdays: October 9, 16 and 30 at 7:20-8:20pm and on the 23rd from 8:30-10pm. As these are not part of our regular season, we will be charging a per head fee of $20 for the 1 hour sessions and $25-$30 for the 1.5 hour session to cover the ice fees.
Please contact Glenn Corso at gcorso@optonline.net or Fred Prilop at Fredskate2@version.net for additional information or if you have questions.
Sessions will start TBD (Some time in November, we hope.)
Sessions will end on TBD (expected to be around March 15th)

Even if you have limited skating experience, but are interested in trying the fastest aspect of the sport, come down and give it a try. FMSSC has a limited number of pairs of speed skates to lend out to first-timers.
Speedskating for exercise.
Speedskating is a nice way to have a low impact workout. You can have an aerobic workout by skating long distances, and you can have an anaeorbic workout by skating in the sprints. It's an activity that the whole family can participate in. At the Flushing club we have skaters from 4 years to 70. Many family members skate together.
Speedskating improves your balance, endurance, leg strength and general well-being. It's FUN! It's
exciting and is a great way to take advantage of one of the fastest human powered sports.
Speedskating....a sport for life.
FMSSC sessions and races are held at the World's Fair Ice Rink, located directly next to the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Park, Queens.
We offer an exciting season of training, racing and the opportunity to improve your skating skills.
Flushing Meadow Speed Skating Club is a member of the Middle Atlantic Skating Association (MASA).

NOTE: As of March 13th, 2008, FMSSC concluded it's final session for the 2007-2008 season at the location listed below. This rink has been closed and the museum expanded to include the part of the rink which was used for ice skating.
Do not despair... there is a new rink located within the park complex which contains a new
ice rink and an Olympic size pool. A management company has been selected and we have negotiated a new schedule for the 2008-2009 season noted above. Once we know the rink is open for business, information will be posted on this website along with new directions and contact information. Stay tuned! Directions below will change slightly as the new rink is located on the Eastern side of the park near the Van Wyke Expressway. Revisions will be posted when they are ready.
